au. Ch'ol Chong
tr. S. Hong
In the widening galaxy, I played with the bright moon.
With bamboo trees planted on the river bank, I drew up a fine wind.
Serving as the governor of a southern province for a year,
I found myself in between both the wind and the moon.
**The author: Ch¡¯ol Chong (1536-1593). Passed the civil exam. Officialdom: provincial
governor, vice premier, father of poetry in Korean. During his tenure as Governor of
Cholla Province, he built a rectangular pond where the Three God Mountains were
constructed based on the myth of the unworldly men.
A Word:
The poet tries to free himself from his daily life driven by secular desires. By
befriending the wind and the moon, his dreams come true within the work.
